Love?

Earlier this week I was meditating on God’s Word and this Scripture found in Luke 6:27 came to mind. I began to marvel at how we often forget that God demonstrated this command so beautifully at Calvary. Paul shows us how God’s love extends to His enemies when he writes in Romans 5:8, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Sin made us enemies with God. It was not His desire for there to be enmity between Himself and humanity, but sin was the chasm that divided us from God. Although sin is abhorrent to God and cannot dwell in His presence, He still loved us. Even though we were enemies, He loved us. Romans 5:10 states,“For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son…”

It was Calvary that demonstrated the true depth of Jesus’ statement to, “love your enemies” when He willingly died for those who hated Him. There were few on that hillside that day who felt anything but a hatred for Him, yet He still cried out, “lay no this sin to their charge.” Oh what a Saviour, oh what a love.
